RUSSELL Green, greengrocer and florist in Coningsby for the last 40 years, has sold his fruit and veg shop.
Asked if he was going to retire, Russell said: "I am going to take Sundays off!"
Russell has supplied customers in Coningsby and Tattershall with fresh vegetables since he was 15 years old, when he delivered with a bicycle and cart. He learned floristry in Boston and at 17 years old bought his first van.
His dad, Ivor, bought a piece of land in Coningsby to expand his own growing and storage space, and when Russell married Mavis in 1963 they lived in a caravan for four years on the site before building the present bungalow and shop. An illness in 1974 left Mavis in a wheelchair and she died in 2006.
Russell has always enjoyed his work, meeting people and offering a service. He has retained the florist's shop, run by his sister-in-law Maxine, and converted the outdoor sheds into a Farm Shop.
