HISTORICAL places - usually hidden from the public - will be open for the Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days, from Thursday September 11 until Sunday September 14.
The event, organised by Heritage Lincolnshire in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, is Britain's biggest and most diverse celebration of architecture, history and culture.

More than 80 different sites will be open across the county, with many offering behind the scene tours and other activities.

Horncastle area events:

Working Woodlands Weekend at Chambers Farm Wood near Wragby from 11am-4pm on September 13 and 14.

* Visit the heart of the Lincolnshire Limewoods to experience a special weekend of traditional craft and industry including wood and metalworking, family activities, guided walks and much more. Details: www.limewoods.co.uk

* Classic Motor Museum at Coningsby Moorside, off the B1192. There will be a special opening of a private home museum featuring motor and farm memorabilia including working farm engines and two strokes from 3,500cc to 5,000cc.

There are also aviation and domestic sections displaying children's games and vintage washing machines.

* Dogdyke Pumping Station,(entrance via Bridge Farm off the A153 east of Tattershall ).

An 1855 beam engine powering the scoop-wheel and land drainage pump will be on display. It is the last remaining example still in steam in the UK and possibly in Europe.
