A MEMORIAL service will be held on Sunday, October 5 on the spot where a Lancaster bomber and five of its crew remain buried in Sibsey Fens.
The bomber crashed in 1943 while on its way to France and despite days of rescue efforts it could not be retrieved.

The rear gunner's body was found but the remaining five crewmen stayed buried where they fell.

Tattershall man Hoyland Barrack, as a member of the Royal British Legion, has visited the site for 50 years and in 1985 he instigated, with the help of RBL colleagues, the Lincolnshire Aviation Society and the Grant Brothers, who own the land, the restoration and rededication of the memorial.

Subsequently the Sibsey Lancaster Memorial Trust was formed and dedicated to the six crew who died.

On Sunday, the congregation who attend the service, to be conducted by the Rev John Moore, will be able to walk across a grassed path to the centre of the field.

After the service everyone is welcome back to Carrington Village Hall for refreshments prepared by the women's section of Coningsby and Tattershall RBL. Phillips of Ruskington supply a coach and driver for the trip.

Anyone wishing to go should be in Tattershall Market Place at 1.30pm to catch the coach (or to follow in your car), the bus then picks up in Coningsby outside Penny's Café for the service at 2.30pm.
