EDITOR – Taking the wrong turning recently in Horncastle, enroute from Lincoln to Mareham le Fen, I found myself on the road to Woodhall Spa and went over an old railway bridge before turning back, when a local man kindly led me back to the road I needed.
Going back over the bridge, I noticed an old track bed leading in the direction of Horncastle and remembered there was once a branch line terminating there.
I believe it continued with freight after closure to passenger trains.
Perhaps one of your readers will be kind enough to let me know if anything remains of the Horncastle Station and the old line in the town.
Also, if possible, when the line was finally closed and dismantled?
A photo of how things once looked would be nice.
I look forward to receiving any information.
