AFTER 130 years of being devoid of a street sign, Horncastle's former red light district now displays its original name.
Thanks to Horncastle Civic Society, the walkway linking St Lawrence Street and the Somerfield supermarket is now, quite clearly Dog Kennel Lane.

The blue name plate was installed by Horncastle Civic Society chairman Trevor Butterworth and member Bob Wayne and can now be seen on the wall of the Vets on the Corner surgery.

Most of Horncastle's blue enamel street name plates date from the latter half of the 19th Century -around the time sewers and mains water arrived in the town.

"The installation of infrastructure required a standardisation of street names so we lost Pudding Lane which is now St Lawrence Street, explained Mr Wayne.

"Far Street and Millstone Street became, rather boringly, West Street and North Street," he added.
