All the fish and bugs appearing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons in April, and how to catch them

As Animal Crossing's placid island life plays out in real time, in game events and content change to reflect each season.

That means that new months bring with them new fish to catch, and new bugs to ensnare in your trusty net.

As April dawns on us, some critters are sticking around from last month, while others will be making their first appearances in the game.

Either way, we've listed every creature you can expect to find populating your island in April, as well as tips on how to catch them, and how much you'll be able to get for them if you choose to sell them at Nook's Cranny.

Of course, it's always worth donating any new species you find to Blathers at the museum!

Fishing tips

Before you head out on a fishing trip, you'll of course want to craft yourself a net for the job.

It's also recommended that you craft some fishing bait - although you can still catch fish without it. To do this, wander along the beach until you see a small shadow spouting water.

Dig in this spot with a shovel to unearth a manilla clam, which you can use to craft one batch of fish bait.

Sprinkling the bait in a body of water will force a fish to spawn at that spot, and can attract the rarer fish to you.

Whether you're using bait or not, look out for dark, fish-shaped shadows in the water, and try to cast your line so the float lands just in front of it.
