CONINGSBY played their first home game of the season against Westside Rangers.
With a disappointing loss in the Fishtoft Cup last week, manager Carl Wall was hopeful to move on.
With no less than 11 players missing from Coningsby it was going to be a tough game. Coningsby have a quality squad and this was proved in the first half as Coningsby packed the midfield to try and stretch the visitors’ defence.
After 20 minutes and against the run of play, it was Rangers who went in front, but Coningsby came flying out of the blocks and with the half-hour mark approaching, new signing Matt ‘Spratty’ Spratt floated in a cross from the left.
It found Rob Holderness who converted to bring the home side level 1-1.
With five minutes of the half left it was Spratty who again popped up with the second from just outside the area with a wand like shot to beat the keeper in the bottom right corner. Half time 2-1 Coningsby.
With no changes made at half time for either team, the second half kicked off with great pace.
Eadsforth, Smith, and "Sunset" Reeson, aided Yeomans to keep the visitors quiet in attack, with the help of Daubney and Spratt as wing backs, Barker, Cottingham and Leeroy all worked hard in the middle to support Holderness and Barnsley up front for Coningsby.
With Coningsby dominating the game, Holderness ran onto a precise pass from Leeroy to whip a deadly ball in over the six yard line onto Man of the Match Cottingham to convert and give the home team the win and all 3 points and continue their undefeated home run in all competitions.
Team: Yeomans, Spratt, Daubney, Eadsforth, Smith, Reeson (Slater), Marshall (Rafa), Barker, Cottingham, Barnsley (Lucas), Holderness
