IT WAS first blood to Bourne as Horncastle captain Jacob Cook injured his knee in the warm up and was unable to play.

Both sides fought hard in the first half, each missing penalties.

Bourne with a more experienced and stronger pack created the most chances but failed to take them.

It was Paul File of Horncastle who opened the scoring with a penalty kick on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, despite being under heavy pressure, Horncastle counterattacked with some strong running from Mick Hoyes and Adam Carr almost resulting in a try.

But it was Bourne who scored next with a converted try to take the lead back.

With two men now sin binned both sides were down to 14 men.

But Horncastle, losing two players through injury, raised their game and with a flowing backs move and Paul File skipped through to score and then convert.

With just five minutes to go and Horncastle were back in front.

Bourne used their forwards to batter the Horncastle line and despite fierce tackling they forced through to score a try and take back the lead.

With no time left on the clock to score Bourne held on to win.

A great team effort and a good game to watch.
