THERE has been a new twist in the debate over the future of a touring caravan site in the heart of Woodhall Spa.
There has been anger from local traders since it was revealed in the Horncastle News that East Lindsey District Council intended to sacrifice its loss-making site in Jubilee Park.

It was thought that the controversy would be debated at Wednesday's
full meeting of East Lindsey District Council where ward representative Coun Mick Harness had given notice of a special motion.

If successful, this would have resulted in closure being deferred from the end of the current season until at least the end of the 2009 season.

But, with no explanation, meeting chairman Coun Stan Avison said the motion had been withdrawn.

Instead, Coun Harness presented a petition expressing traders' concerns that closure of the Jubilee Park caravan site would have "a devastating impact" on local shops and businesses.

However, it has since emerged that preliminary plans have been drawn up for a touring caravan site with 80 pitches to be established on land off Stixwould Road.

It is understood that Skegness developers Manorcrest Homes have been in discussion with ELDC, though no formal application has yet been submitted.

According to an ELDC spokesman, there could be a "double-win" for Woodhall - enhanced croquet facilities and a new improved caravan park.

However, any new caravan site would require planning permission - and there could be objections.
